In the same boat Richard. I think these days its all about "who" you know and how much experience you have. I am a recent graduate with two temp jobs in the last 2 years. My work history is battered with moves and unemployment. Thinking about starting my own business especially because I can't get a SS job with a Sociology degree. Go figure. Best of luck to you and I hope things turn around for you soon.

Just a remark on being a "local"... it's such a Catch-22. In order to relocate, you really need to have a job lined up. In order to land the job, you need to be local. The ideal is to have 3-4 months' worth of salary saved up so you can last through the transitional period, but these days, who can do that? What I've learned: I will NEVER again move to a tiny little town so far off the beaten track. It's not only difficult to get an interview, it's difficult to do any serious networking.

By the way, Mr. Parsons, that would be my suggestion for you: networking. If you can, get involved with volunteer groups, promotional groups, professional groups, tips clubs, anything you can, and be sure people know who you are, what you can do, and that you are interested in opportunities. Very useful.

Hi,

I have been out of work since the end of May 09 and I have been getting more and more depressed.
I have what I would consider as a good resume and have applied for the correct roles. However due to this bloody economy I am not even getting an interview where I would have done in the past.

I really do not know what is going wrong and welcome any such advice.
Regards
